The House That Dansk Built: a Nature-Lover’s Paradise

$7 million
Annual property taxes: $64,149
15 Middle Patent Road, Armonk
Even from a distance, this contemporary gem in its secluded 20-acre setting with a breathtaking view of Cobamong Lake shows the tell-tale signs of its ultra special profile. Add to that its unmistakable Jens Quistgaard Danish design envisioned for and by Ted and Martha Nierenberg, founders of Dansk, and you have a property makes the term “special” an understatement. An equally unique layout with a master bedroom suite on the main level and the remaining four bedroom suites on the lower level round out its unique design with nature in mind. “It’s a surprise from the moment you walk in,” says Joanna Rizoulis, one of three listing agents.

“The house is designed around views of the lake—it just takes your breath away. There’s no other home like it—with its exceptional privacy, convenience (less than an hour from Manhattan), and feeling of nature.” Other special surprises: a 25-foot by 40-foot great room with a vaulted wood ceiling, a master ensuite bath featuring a traditional Japanese sunken soaking tub, a teak and mahogany all-wood interior that lends a nautical feel, floor-to-ceiling windows designed to capture nature at every turn, custom-made brass detailing throughout, and lush grounds with plantings personally planted by the late Ted Nierenberg. Garden Club of New Rochelle’s 100th Anniversary Celebration
The Long Island Sound will be the naturally beautiful backdrop for “Hidden Gardens & Historic Places,” the focus of the Garden Club of New Rochelle’s 100th Anniversary celebration. The self-guided tour on Saturday, June 11, from 10 am to 3 pm, gives ticket holders access to six exquisite private gardens, including gardens surrounding a 100-year-old house formerly occupied by a famous New Rochelle clergyman. Tour proceeds will support ongoing and new Garden Club projects, such as the planting of thousands of daffodil bulbs throughout New Rochelle. The Garden Club also hopes to attract new members. Says spokesperson Joanne Bartoli, “We offer all the fun of gardening without ever having to mow the lawn or rake the leaves!” For more information and tickets ($20 in advance or $25 same day), call (914) 636-4206. Same-day tickets will be available at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Green Homes and Green Estates Tour Benefits Wolf Conservation Center
Six stand-out Northern Westchester homes will be featured in the “Green Homes and Green Estates” tour on Sunday, June 26, from 10 am to 4 pm, to benefit the Wolf Conservation Center of South Salem. Conservation-minded homeowners and community-oriented brokers from Ginnel Real Estate are once again working together to help raise funds for the Center. This year’s featured homes range from a gracious historic Ridgefield mansion to a modern, prairie-style family home reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright, to a serenely private and romantic 1970s contemporary lake house built by actors Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy. Despite differences in style, all six houses share a “green” intention of conserving or reusing historic elements during construction or renovation, and leaving the natural surroundings minimally disturbed. Tour tickets are $75 (100% tax deductible) with the option of enjoying lunch at the new outdoor Farmhouse Patio at The Bedford Post (the acclaimed restaurant and historic inn owned by Richard Gere) for an additional $25. For more information and tour registration, call (914) 763-2373, ext. 1, or go to www.nywolf.org. Register early—the tour is limited to 200!

Dine with Design at Simon Pearce in Greenwich
After a high-profile June 2 kick-off to benefit the Breast Cancer Alliance, the Dine with Design display of tablescapes conceived by area designers continues through June 20 at the newly relocated and expanded Simon Pearce concept store and gallery in Greenwich. Local design and interior experts featuring tabletop tableaux include Regina Bilotta of Bilotta Kitchens, Hilton-VanderHorn Architects, Hollingsworth Design Associates, Sandra Morgan Interiors, and SM Home. Says Ed Lent, Simon Pearce Creative Integration Manager, “Customers enjoy new ideas and ways to enjoy our products into their lives, who better than interior designers (and an architect) to have fun with the products and entertain us with creativity and vision.” The store also has launched PURE, a new venue within the Greenwich store featuring limited editions from glass and ceramic artists, and a FOCAL POINT discount purchase program to help designers better serve their clients with custom projects in glass and ceramic, from lighting to home and decor to dinnerware. After June 20, the store will be reset to coordinate with a new retail campaign, “Drinks on the deck,” based on summer entertaining, that showcases new stemware and shares printed drink recipes from the store’s Quechee, VT, restaurant with customers. For more information, call (203) 861-0780.
