The project, which is in no short supply of financial incentives, was approved by the Mount Pleasant Industrial Development Agency (IDA) for the construction of a three-story residential building located at 500 Commerce Street in Hawthorne. Founded on a total private investment of $7.3 million, the development is expected to create 40 construction jobs and generate significant tax revenue for the school district and town.
The new building will include 16 apartments, underground parking, and the addition of new sidewalks along the corridor. Fortunately for any non-driving residents, the development is also conveniently located only a short distance away from the Metro-North train station. The building itself will be situated on the spot of a former restaurant, and all construction will be built and supervised by local developer John Piazza.
A project such as this one has been on the forefront of the Mount Pleasant IDA’s agenda for quite some time as the organization hopes it will bring new energy to the area. “This development perfectly aligns with our master plan for revitalizing the Commerce Street corridor,” says Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi, who also serves as IDA Chairman. “Now, with this exciting new project, we are taking significant and meaningful steps toward making that a reality.”
