It’s that time of year! The time of year when everyone is gearing up for the holidays, but also a new year. And with the new year comes the desire to start fresh, which in many homes means adding a new coat of paint.

And just in time, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams have come out with their choices for Color of the Year 2015, and they could not be any more different.

Sherwin-Williams announced Coral Reef as their Color of the Year based on the floral trend that is hitting all of the fashion runways.

Jackie Jordan, director of color marketing, Sherwin-Williams suggests using Coral Reef (SW 6606) on its own on a front door or piece of furniture, but said you can really make it sing with accent colors like Cotton White (SW 7104), Black Fox (SW 7020), Baroness (SW 6837), and Paradise (SW 6720). Or if you want to relax this bold color slightly pair it with warm neutrals like Sedate Gray (SW 6169) or buttery yellows like Hubbard Squash (SW 0044).

Benjamin Moore, on the other hand, chose Guilford Green HC-116. It is described as a silvery green that can work with both modern and traditional designs making it a versatile color for any home.

Benjamin Moore’s color pick, Guilford Green, is complemented by a spectrum of other colors featured in their Color Trends of 2015.

The team at Benjamin Moore said they took their cues from trends in fashion, textiles, and the arts to choose this color along with the 23 shades that make up their Color Trends of 2015. The trends feature monochromatic colors using warm, cool, dark, and light layers of the same hue. They include green, blue, blush, and berry shades. Guilford Green can act as a complement to these colors or easily stand on its own.

“Homeowners are ready to experiment with color and are more confident with making unique design choices for the home,” said Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director at Benjamin Moore.

Paint is a simple and inexpensive way to transform any room. If you’re looking to make a change in your home, check out all of the colors from Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends of 2015 below and get inspired.
