Head to This Village Filled With Delicious Food and Wine (and We Don't Mean Flavortown)

Our highly anticipated Wine & Food Festival is just a week away, and that means we’re spending all weekend getting excited for the Grand Tasting Village, the pinnacle of the entire event. More than fifty local restaurants gather to offer attendees a look behind the curtain in the making of their favorite, delicious dishes. Here, we chat with just a handful of the participating vendors for an inside scoop at the flavors they are bringing to the table this year.

What will you be busting out for the Grand Tasting Village?

Alyssa Tucker, Bronx Little Italy: We’re excited to offer a ‘taste of Little Italy in the Bronx’ with a sampling of fare from different local and long-time neighborhood merchants including Joe’s Deli, Terranova Bakery, and Teitel Brothers, showcasing the best Italian goods, including artisan breads, prosciutto, soppressata, mozzarella, olive oil and much more!

Alex Dai, Dai Sushi: For the Grand Tasting Village, we will be showcasing two of our most popular menu items. From the appetizer menu, we will be presenting our take on sashimi tacos with salmon, served with a handcrafted tomato salsa. Additionally, we will be showing off our signature spicy tuna roll.

Rafael Palomino; Sonora Restaurant: We will be making a Chino-Latino yellow fin tuna tartar.

Madeline Heslin; Benjamin Steakhouse: We will be serving our classic dry-aged porterhouse bites and creamless creamed spinach, paired with the option of our homemade Benjamin Steakhouse Old Fashioned Steak Sauce.

What ideas and flavors are you aiming to incorporate in your offerings?

Bronx Little Italy: Often referred to as ‘Little Italy in the Bronx’ or Arthur Avenue, the local neighborhood features New York City’s best, authentic Italian restaurants, butchers, bakeries, pastry shops, artisan food shops and specialty stores. The idea is to feature authentic traditional foods with flavors that are filled with the extraordinary culture of our century old community.

Dai Sushi: With each of our menu items, we hope to fuse together traditional Japanese cuisine with other modern and international flavors.

Sonora Restaurant: Expect a wonderful Asian-Latin fusion.

Benjamin Steakhouse: Our hand-picked dry-aged porterhouse bites offer a rich and tender flavor profile paired with our creamless creamed spinach to pack in a punch of aromatics and fresh spices.

Can you give us any hints of unexpected twists or flare to expect from your booth?

Bronx Little Italy: All products are handmade and fresh from businesses that have been owned and operated by the same families for multiple generations – many of which are over 100 years old or are celebrating their centennial this year. In addition to our products being fresh, delicious, and passed down through several generations, our neighborhood’s menu items are filled with history and passion.

Dai Sushi: Visitors of our booth can expect to find a satisfying blend of iconic Japanese flavors with a comforting and modern flare.

Sonora Restaurant: Crispy quinoa….

Benjamin Steakhouse: No unexpected twists here. We’re offering our award-winning, signature meat and top-selling side dish. ‘Fan favorites’ is an understatement!

What are you most excited for about participating in the Grand Tasting Village?

Bronx Little Italy: It’s an honor to represent the Bronx and be invited to such a special event that highlights the best of Westchester County. We look forward to interacting with all the attendees, many of whom are familiar with Arthur Avenue, showcasing a rich portfolio of Italian bakeries, butchers, pastry shops, delis, fish markets, pizzerias, restaurants and more. We want to continue to welcome Westchester County to Arthur Avenue and see them as our neighbor and part of our community.

Dai Sushi: We are most excited to share our culinary creativity and passion with the people of Westchester County.

Sonora Restaurant: The publicity that we are going to obtain and the press that we are going to get.

Benjamin Steakhouse: Excited to see our old and new friends at the Grand Tasting Village, see what we are up against!
