As the weather heats up, a refreshing cocktail is the perfect way to cool down. Luckily, Westchester County’s distilleries provide all the boozy ingredients any at-home mixologist needs. Cheers!

Current Spirits

375 Clearbrook Rd, Elmsford; 914.741.BEER

Whether your go-to drink is single malt whiskey or a can of spiked elderflower lemonade, this Captain Lawrence distillery has all of your favorite liquors. Current Spirits crafts vodka, gin, bourbon, grappa, rye whiskey, canned cocktails, and, somehow, so much more. Don’t know what to order? Then head over to the Current Spirits tasting room on the weekends to test out different spirits and cocktails. When ordering for pick up from the Elmsford or Mount Kisco Captain Lawrence locations, liquor lovers can also order up some noshes like homemade chips and guacamole, a pork ramen kit, or a pizza kit. Plus, with orders of at least $40, you can get your favorite clear, dark, or canned liquors delivered right to your door.

Heimat

430 Center Ave, Mamaroneck; 347.621.8201

Drink your daily fruit servings, we won’t tell! Steeped in history and heritage, Heimat offers fruity, German-style liquors inspired by the founder’s German grandmother’s recipe. Always made with fruit from local NY farms, the fresh flavors like bosc pear, cranberry, white peach, rhubarb, nectarine, raspberry, and blackberry have endless cocktail opportunities. Combine the rhubarb flavor with champagne for an easy Bellini; mix the raspberry liquor with gin, lemon juice, and egg whites for a raspberry sour; or simply pour a shot or two over some ice cream for a boozy dessert. Unfortunately, the Mamaroneck production site is closed for tastings (at press time) due to COVID, but WFH bartenders can pick up a bottle (or one of each flavor) from retail locations across the East Coast.

Nahmias et Fils

201 Saw Mill River Rd, Yonkers; 917.756.7022

A North Riverdale husband-and-wife duo serve up a fermented fig liquor unlike any other spirit. The fig drink, called mahia, is the national liqueur of Morocco and had been crafted for decades by the owner David Nahmias’ family in Morocco before he and his wife, Dorit, established Nahmias et Fils in Yonkers. If figs aren’t your thing then the “Legs Diamond” rye whiskey is necessary for your liquor cabinet. For the 21+ crowd, check out $15 daily distillery tours and tastings to find the ideal Nahmias spirit.

Neversink Spirits

33 New Broad St, Port Chester; 914.352.1953

There’s no better way to show your love for New York then by sipping on some apple-based gin, aperitif, and brandies. Founded by two Mamaroneck High School friends, this distillery serves fruit brandies made with apples and pears, gin crafted from NY apples, apple aperitif, and bourbon whiskey. And all of it is as mouth-watering and crisp as the fruit it is made from.

Sound Shore Distillery

360 Mt Pleasant Ave E, Mamaroneck; 914.341.1068

Previously known as Good Shepherd Distillery, Sound Shore Distillery continues to serve the same brandy, vodka, and single malt whiskey with redesigned packaging. The smooth flavors from Sound Shore spirits come from diligent distillation and filtration processes. For example, the Sound Shore Craft Vodka is distilled seven times and filtered 10 times.

And… just a quick drive over the county line:

KAS Spirits

46 Miller Rd, Mahopac; 845.750.6000

KAS Spirits may only offer one spirit, but boy-oh-boy does it do the distillation well. Unlike other distilleries on this list, this Mahopac spot only distills one type of alcohol called Krupnikas, a spicy honey-flavored liquor that is popular in Lithuania and Poland. Sweetened with local New York honey and with tangs of vanilla, saffron, and cardamom, KAS Krupnikas can be added to both cold and warm cocktails as an easy and flavorful way to make cozy mulled wine or a refreshing Negroni.
