The Katonah restaurant, which opened last year, also does killer breakfast classics.
Brunch has become a weekend staple. On Saturdays and Sundays, The Whitlock in Katonah serves our favorite dishes — with a spin. “Our most popular brunch dish is absolutely the latkes Benedict,” says Christina Safarowic, who opened the homey restaurant with her husband, Matt, last year. It’s a twist on a classic brunch favorite, incorporating something from Matt’s family traditions.” The dish features poached eggs on latkes (instead of the typical English muffin) with homemade hollandaise (pictured above). It’s complemented by crispy bacon and lightly dressed greens.
A close second, is the huevos rancheros (above), served with black beans, avocado, pico de gallo, queso fresco and corn tortillas. Drowned in Tabasco, it’s the perfect spicy brunch fix.
Sweet options include buttermilk pancakes with local berries (a can’t-go-wrong classic) and French toast with a dollop of whipped, vanilla-scented ricotta and blood orange preserves (above). We wouldn’t say no to a skillet of warm cinnamon rolls, either (below).
For the hungriest members of your table, the steak and eggs (pictured below) is a must. The petite filet, cooked to perfection, and served with sunnyside-up eggs and crispy breakfast potatoes, will leave you full until dinner. There are also savory dishes from the regular dinner menu, like everything-bagel deviled eggs and a chorizo-shrimp burger with Oaxaca cheese and avocado.
Don’t forget to complement the meal with a Bloody Mary, served in a mason jar and topped with peppers, pickles, olives, and celery. With just the right amount of spice, it’s dangerously delicious.
