Where to Grab Food and Drink Around Tarrytown Music Hall

The oldest theater in Westchester County, the Tarrytown music Hall was built in 1885 by chocolate magnate William Wallace. Over the years the 843-seat cultural center has been patronized by families such as the Rockefellers, Goulds, and Vanderbilts. It still draws in upwards of 85,000 guests each year, and funnels more than a million dollars into the local economy.

Whether a captain of finance catching one of Westchesters first silent films, or a middle-class parent taking the kids to see Shopkins Live, the one thing all frequenters have had in common through more than a century of performances is this: everyone’s got to eat.

Luckily, Tarrytown is also host to a bevy of delicious and (mostly) nutritious eateries to hit up before or after any show.

Burgers & Booze

Little B’s stocks more than two-dozen craft beers, plus large-format bottles and classic American standbys and a respectable wine list and a more-than-respectable whiskey menu. On the grub front they offer up make-your-own options to customize the perfect burger, salad, or mac’n’cheese plate, and there’s always another combination of sauces to try out on your wings. Add in some specials and a few signature cocktails, and you’ve got the perfect accompaniment to any rockin’ concert.

Greek

Sometimes you only have a few brief minutes to get something into your system before a show, or into the kids before they enter a full-on hunger tantrum. Who says fast food has to be “fast food?” Lefteris Gyro is a little ways up Broadway from the Music Hall, and despite serving some of the most mouth-watering classic Greek dishes you’ve ever tasted, they do it like a well-grape-seed-oiled machine. Warm pita, A1 tzatziki, tender souvlaki, all of it is perfect for grab-and-go dining, especially when you order ahead online! (Of course you’re more than welcome to sit down and enjoy less-mobile meals like soup, burgers, and grilled octopus.)

Farm to Table

This is where Tarrytown really shines. Within just a couple blocks of the Music Hall there are no less than three guaranteed-to-please dining spots that put the focus on locally sourced ingredients and sustainable agricultural practices.

The Twisted Oak is the most high-end of our selection, featuring a constantly rotating menu based primarily on what Chef Michael Cutney happens to decide on with his farmers each week. Duck lasagna and homemade doughnuts have been some of our favorites since they opened back in 2014, but with their new spins on classic craft cocktails, there’s just no going wrong with anything you order. Reservations go fast, so snap up yours now on OpenTable.

Sweet Grass Grill is a more casual dining option that still maintains relationships with about a dozen local farms. They serve brunch, lunch, and dinner with tons of vegan and gluten-free options, and even go so far as to mark off on their menus which dishes contain nuts for allergy sufferers. Their Farmer’s Board lists the weekly specials, garnered from their partner farms. The focus is on sustainability, so you’ll know that the fish you ordered was conscientiously harvested. Even the bar was sustainably produced, being carved from a single fallen oak tree from the nearby Rockefeller Preserves. You won’t notice that bar, since you’ll be totally fixated on the delicious micro brews and dynamite cocktails being served atop it, but hey, it’s nice to remember later.

Tarry Tavern is a nice middle-ground between the two aforementioned establishments. The dinner menu is divided between “Tavern” and “Market” options, allowing guests to choose from locally-sourced seasonal meats and produce. Their warm Jerusalem artichoke soup with (oh man) “bacon crumbs” has been a cold-weather staple for a few years now.
