Where to Get Westchester’s Top Chicken Cutlet Sandwiches

From Croton down to Dobbs Ferry, these delis are serving OMG cutlets that will elevate your sandwich game.

When you live in Westchester, ordering a chicken cutlet sandwich is pretty much a pastime. But what makes a chicken cutlet sandwich really stand out? Well, it starts with the cutlet. From there, it’s all about finding the right bread and the perfect meat and cheese combo to complement it. Here are five delis in the area with mouthwatering chicken cutlet pairings.

Mona Lisa Salumeria

829 Post Rd, Scarsdale; 914.723.3493

As you walk down a narrow alleyway onto Post Road, you can smell the fresh cutlets being made at Mona. Perfectly seasoned and lightly fried, the breading on these cutlets is unlike anything you’ve had before. (Before you dive into your sandwich, rip off a piece of the cutlet and try it its own.) For a custom sandwich with just the right ratio of meat, cheeses, and vegetables, order chicken cutlet, hot soppressata, provolone, olive oil, pickled eggplant, and hot peppers on a wedge. Pro tip: Come to Mona hungry and ready to take down one of these colossal wedges.

Casa D’Italia

265 Halstead Ave, Harrison; 914.835.6370

In business since 1997, Casa D’Italia is a staple on Halstead Ave. You can never go wrong with their famous Bronx Tale sandwich, which has chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, hot capicola, sun-dried peppers, and pesto. While the thin, tender cutlets are worth writing home about, the X factor here is the sweet-savory sun-dried peppers. You can get this sandwich on a hero or club roll, but if you want to get fancy, go with the ciabatta bread.

Nonna’s Parkside Deli

91 Ashford Ave, Dobbs Ferry; 914.693.9300

This small, old-school, Italian-American deli adjacent to Gould Park has been overlooked for far too long. The cutlets are made fresh to order in two different styles: crunchy, classic deep fry and flour fry that yields tender, perfectly crispy, juicy cutlets. Try the Italian Cowboy, with a Texas-style cutlet (it’s dipped in seasoned flour), pepperoni, provolone, and fiery chipotle sauce. (Note: These wedges are so big that it takes a special art to wrap them.) Subbing mozzarella for provolone and requesting garlic bread is never a bad idea.

Villa D’oro

24 Old Albany Post Rd, Croton-on-Hudson; 914.862.0684

Villa D’oro is a bakery, a market, and a top-notch deli all in one. Here, you’ll find dark brown, deep fried cutlets that pack the perfect crunch. Try a custom sandwich with imported mortadella, Asiago cheese, olive oil, and roasted peppers on a wedge. The nutty asiago complements the saltiness of the cutlet. The roasted red peppers and olive oil soak into the bread to make it moist. Plus, my personal theory is that one meat is good, but two is so much better.

Frank’s Food Court

349 E Main St, Elmsford; 914.592.9560

Right off Route 119, Frank’s serves up big, golden brown cutlets that may be thicker than what you’re used to. But don’t be intimidated, the seeded Zurro’s bastone is more than equipped to hold it. Go for The Matteo, where a warm cutlet sits on top of thinly sliced Prosciutto di Parma, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, olive oil, and sun-dried tomato pesto. (Full disclosure: This sandwich is named after me.) It’s a combo you can’t miss.
