Briny, bright, boozy — pickle beer is here just in time for National Pickle Day! Here’s where to sip in Westchester.

Pineapple on pizza. Ketchup and eggs. Avocado…ice cream?

If you’re into food, funky flavor pairings are all the rage. But for the craft beer obsessed, there’s a new offering on the rise here in Westchester that’s sure to pucker some lips.

Just in time for National Pickle Day (that’s today, November 14) two Massachusetts brands — Lord Hobo Brewing Company and Grillo’s Pickles — have teamed up for a unique pickle beer you won’t want to miss.

Better yet: It’s available at most Westchester DeCicco & Sons locations as well as — for starters — Beer Noggin in Bronxville, Mamaroneck’s Half Time, and Leewood Beverage Center in White Plains.

If you’re on the fence, we get it. Pickle Beer feels like a novelty. And it is.

But Lord Hobo Pickle Beer should be treated like an experience — it’s the rare opportunity to crack a new, highly limited craft beer collaboration and truly not know what to expect.

We’ve tried it, though. So, without spoiling all the fun, here’s what we thought.

To set the stage, Lord Hobo Pickle Beer is an ale infused with over 50 gallons of Grillo’s dill pickle brine. Clocking in at a respectable 6% alcohol by volume, it pours like a pale ale but drinks like something you’ve never had before — sweet, juicy, tart, and oddly satisfying.

Pour it into a glass and you begin to see where the magic happens. There is so much pickle brine brewed into this beer, it actually gives off a green hue.

As for the flavor, it’s not full-frontal pickle, but it’s definitely there. Crisp, briny, and unlike any ale you’re likely to order anytime soon.

Be on the lookout, now that you’re fully in-the-know. Pucker up, and thank us later.
