Look no further for some sugar and spice come this Festival of Lights to sweeten the finale of 2021. This year, we are serving up some Hanukkah desserts you can order at some of the county’s better bakeries. From house-made sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts the Jewish way) to your favorite rugelach, cookies, and decorative cakes, there’s a festive baked good for everyone’s sweet tooth.

The holidays and cookie platters go together like a pastry chef and butter. Cookies can be made gluten-free and/or vegan for special diets at this from-scratch bakery. While picking up your crowd-pleasing Hanukkah treats, including rugelach and macaroons, don’t miss out on a house-made empanada and a cup of local Black Cow coffee.

Make this gluten- and dairy-free bakery’s rich, springy-textured, and just-a-bit-sweet challah part of your holiday tradition. For something higher on the sweetness scale, order a sufganiyot (a traditional Hanukkah jelly donut), batch of bestselling Star of David cookies, or a Hanukkah sprinkle cake. Attorney-turned-bakery owner Helene Godin ensures that all baked goods are kosher pareve, supervised by OK Kosher Certification.

This gourmet gem could be your one-stop shop for everything Hanukkah, yet it also has options for gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian guests. Baked goods include a gorgeous Hanukkah chocolate layer cake, dreidel butter cookies, babka, and outstanding macaroons. For dinner, pick up “our mother’s chopped liver,” matzo-ball soup, pot roast, stuffed cabbage, kugel, latkes with golden apple sauce, and more.

Patissier Maarten Steenman opened La Tulipe in 1999 after graduating from the Dutch Culinary School for Patisserie and traveling through Europe perfecting his craft. The bakery has been an elegant staple of Westchester for nearly 23 years and this holiday season, Steeman is serving pillowy sufganiyot with house-made jam — raspberry in the mini and apricot in the regular size. Call to order at least a week in advance.

Epstein’s of Hartsdale

Epstein’s has been a kosher institution in Hartsdale since 1949. Call to order Epstein’s sufganiyot sprinkled with powdered sugar. This year, Epstein’s is also offering a full Hanukkah dinner menu, which can be ordered with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, or a la carte.


White Plains Bake Shoppe

This kosher bakery has been a Westchester favorite for more than a decade, serving both dairy and pareve baked goods under rabbinical supervision. Choose from either chocolate or traditional babkas, along with a variety of braided challah loafs or plain challah rolls, which can be ordered by the dozen.

When Jay Muse opened LuLu Cake Boutique, he inherited not only a bakery from the previous owners of the space, but the original Sarah Bernhardt recipe. This delicious crunchy almond macaron cookie topped with rich creamy chocolate comes to life every holiday at the kosher bakery. Add LuLu’s snowballs to your holiday wish list, a mini version of the bakery’s star coconut cake filled with a variety of flavor options, such as passion fruit, Key lime, lemon, mango, or chocolate.

Along with other kosher desserts, classic Star of David cookies are in abundance here. This light and crunchy cookie with a lemony flavor is decoratively topped with royal blue icing and a yellow icing star. Also available are jelly donuts and square donuts filled with black raspberry jelly and topped with cinnamon powder.
