Chicken Cutlet Sandwich
MetLife’s former chicken cutlet sandwich with broccoli rabe got a major upgrade this season — and it’s one you won’t want to miss. The process requires extra effort — after a 24-hour buttermilk brine with hot pepper flakes, the chicken is dredged in Italian breadcrumbs and fried — but it’s worth it for cutlets that are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sandwich comes together with a spread made from hot peppers and roasted garlic, mozzarella, radicchio, pickled onions, and baby arugula, layered inside a fresh baguette.
Veggie Tots
Don’t be fooled by the name, these broccoli tots are fully loaded with cheese sauce, bacon, and scallions. (You’ll want to eat these with a fork.) And it’s not just the creativity of the veggie tots that raises their value — they also contain a serving of green vegetables.
Fat Rooster Drummies
In past years, the Fat Rooster Sandwich — a take on a Nashville hot chicken with dill slaw, honey mayo and sweet pickles on a Hawaiian bun — was so successful that Executive Chef Camillo Baquero is adding another take this year. Dubbed “Drummies” these Southern fried chicken drumsticks are brined in buttermilk and spices, and served with country-style honey mustard, and a hot-honey glaze that has the perfect balance of heat and sweetness. Find them in section 317, and expect them to be rolled out at other locations in the stadium later this season.
Wraps & Bowls
If you’re looking for healthier options at MetLife, say no more. Petite Greens’ rice-and-quinoa bowls are now offered at the stadium. Steamed and seasoned with lemon zest, the bowl also has potatoes, poblano peppers, butternut squash and Middle Eastern spices. Quick and convenient “Grab-N-Go” salads let you choose a dressing, toss it yourself, and then skip the lines at the self-pay kiosk. If you’re looking for a bowl filled with healthy flavors, go with the farro salad, featuring butternut squash, scallions, cranberries, Lacinato kale, radish, Brussel sprouts and carrots. Or try the grilled vegetable wrap with zucchini, roasted tomatoes, mixed greens, mozzarella, and roasted peppers. Look out for some of these healthier choices located on the 100 level of the stadium.
