When the cold months hit, nothing sounds better than a steaming cup of soup. In Harrison, Wellington’s Soup Shack is banking on that with a variety of soups — all served from a spot in the Wellington’s Grill parking lot.
Bill Powell, owner of both spots, wanted to offer an unique service for those on the go. “I wanted to create something that was reasonably priced, fast, and outside the box,” says Powell. “People don’t always want sit down, especially during the week.” The stand, which opened in December 2018, has become a popular mainstay in Harrison, so much so that Powell closes his neighboring restaurant during most work-week hours while the shack is open.
Soup options change often, but many recur due to their popularity, including broccoli-cheddar, chicken vegetable, New England clam chowder, tomato bisque, and orzo chicken soups. Other favorites include green split pea with ham, chicken tortilla, and Italian wedding soup, plus creative options like pumpkin bisque with roasted apples.
Currently, Wellington’s Soup Shack is cutting a delicious deal: soup and a sandwich (grilled cheese or BLT, anyone?) for $10. Customers can also ask about large deliveries to businesses and schools, and can also order soups for their holiday meals.
The shack is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
