Located along Yonkers’ traditionally Irish McLean Avenue, Stevie’s Crepes & Waffles opened in early June. With nine different crêpe fillings to choose from and warm waffles, the eatery never lacks options to entice its customers. “We make the batter every day. It’s fresh and nothing is left overnight,” says owner Stevie Hasou. “[We only use] fresh produce and fresh toppings.”
More than 20 toppings, including an array of fruit, chocolate, and coconut are available for customers to mix and match. The most popular crêpe is the Stevie Wonder, a classic combo of strawberry, Nutella, and banana, drizzled with fudge and dusted in powdered sugar.
Hasou’s favorite is the over-the-top Chocolate Explosion with Nutella, two scoops of ice cream, chunks of brownies, Oreos, and pretzels to provide a salty balance. “I wanted something very chocolatey, but I didn’t want to bite into just chocolate,” says Hasou. “Salted pretzels balance it out.” For less intense decadence (still with plenty of chocolate), try the Gimme S’more or the Almond Joy-inspired Joys of Almond crêpe.
Beyond crêpes, Stevie’s offers bubble waffles, with Maine-based Gifford’s ice cream and unlimited toppings. Combos include the Fly Fishing Fudge (vanilla ice cream, M&M’s, cookie dough, and chocolate chunks) and the I Scream for Cake, featuring cake-batter ice cream, rainbow sprinkles, and buttercream frosting.
As a way of giving back to the community, Hasou offers 10 percent off for firefighters, police officers, EMS workers, teachers, and nurses. “We have a lot of regular customers, so our goal now is to grab the customer and give them more,” says Hasou.
