Everyone likes hot chocolate, but they especially love it during the holiday season. At your next gathering, try creating a hot chocolate bar. It’s fun to throw together and with just a few special touches, it will be the highlight of your party. Start out by making a large pot of your favorite cocoa and pouring it into an electric coffee urn to keep warm. Then, get creative with toppings and decorations. Whipped cream and syrups, like chocolate or caramel, are always popular. Candy canes make terrific stirrers. Use old-fashioned mason jars to artfully display a variety of toppings. Crushed peppermint or toffee, mini chocolate chips and coarse salt are all perfect complements to hot chocolate.
Try labeling everything with adorable chalkboard stickers. Put out your favorite mugs or, for a larger gathering, set out to-go cups. For an extra special touch, try making everyone’s favorite hot chocolate topping: homemade marshmallows. They keep for a month if stored in an airtight container (and separated with parchment paper) and they are worlds better than store bought. Ina Garten’s marshmallow recipe is a winner.
