Yes, Westchester Magazine’s event is one that is looked forward to every year, but what about having a food and wine fest in the biggest city in the county? That’s where Gisselle Peña-Acevedo comes in.
Under her own company, GP Events, Peña-Acevedo is organizing the first Yonkers Wine and Food Festival at the Ukrainian Youth Center on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And what a two months it has been for her.
“I’m a brand manager for wine, so I’ve attended other festivals and have hosted events,” Peña-Acevedo says. “I just came up with the idea for a Yonkers festival, and decided to do it.”

Peña-Acevedo made good use of contacts from events, but some vendors approached her themselves upon hearing about the festival. She hopes to have vendors both inside and outside the venue, if the weather forecast holds up.

Expect to sample wine, craft beverages, food, and more from about 40 vendors, including Don Tony Pérez Wines, Kansas Whiskey, The Taco Project and Manhattan Beer. There will also be clothes, jewelry and other items on sale, with a couple of food trucks parked outside.
Tickets are on sale for $45 each, with $10 tickets for designated drivers, available on Eventbrite, but tickets will be sold at the door on Nov. 12 as well.
Peña-Acevedo says that she will donate 5 percent of ticket sales to Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Foundation, which is also partnering with Don Tony Pérez Wines to help members impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
