Bistro Z, an upscale American restaurant at the renovated Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, boasts a new executive chef, a revamped menu, and a busy calendar of social events.
The restaurant encompasses three main areas: the 70-seat dining room, featuring a large fireplace and newly opened outdoor patio; a lounge with four flat-screen TVs; and a piano bar in the hotel lobby on Friday and Saturday nights. The piano bar is part of the restaurant’s lively events calendar, which also includes happy hours, ladies’ nights, and “Singles on Sunday.”
Executive Chef James Rosenbauer heads up the kitchen at Bistro Z. Recently arrived from the Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk, Connecticut, Rosenbauer has given the menu a makeover from top to bottom, starting with the appetizers, which run from $7 to $14. Among the appetizer highlights are roasted beets, oranges and jumbo asparagus with mesclun greens in a citrus vinaigrette, and parfait of New York State foie gras with mangoes, Michigan cherries, and grilled brioche.
Entrées range from $20 to $29; signature dishes include braised short ribs with porridge of polenta and steamed broccoli and grilled salmon fillet over red-wine lentils and braised wintergreens. Standouts on the dessert menu: the chocolate explosion, a warm chocolate soufflé cake with ganache, and the banana split, a trio of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream with chocolate and caramel sauce.
For a $10 annual fee, Bistro Z offers exclusive discounted rates to members of its Weekend Dining Club. Members receive a 25 percent discount on all bottles of wine, and with the purchase of one entrée they get the second entrée at 50 percent off.
Through June 30th, the restaurant also will be participating in the “Entrée to Hope” program, benefiting The Food Bank for Westchester, Grace Church Community Center and Literacy Volunteers of Westchester. Diners will have the option to donate $1 or more per entrée to the program, with all money assisting Westchester residents in need.
