Eat and Run
The name may be a little goofy but when you offer the variety of delicious foods as they do at The Iron Tomato in White Plains, nomenclature becomes trivial. Now what is Iron Tomato exactly? It has certainly become the go-to lunch spot in the city as there are tables and hot items, so it’s a café serving beer and wine… but there are groceries and also deli and bakery counters and a pizza oven and salad bar and sushi and gelato… hmm. The fact is, it’s a little bit of everything and they accomplish all of it in a range from above average to excellent. The pizza, sushi, and bakery items are generally in the above-average-to-good range while the deli counter is where they earn the most points, especially with house-cooked meats (prime rib, roast beef, rotisserie chicken) and a specialty sandwich board with nary a clunker on it (the crab cake, bacon, spicy Hollandaise, and watercress on a ciabatta roll is an all-star).
Don’t Miss: petite filet with caramelized onions, Cajun mayo, and Gruyere on baguette, grilled vegetables with goat cheese on multigrain bread, crab cake with bacon, spicy Hollandaise, and watercress on a ciabatta roll, any chicken cutlet sandwich, grilled chicken Panini, meat lasagna, prime rib, rotisserie chicken, Brussels sprouts salad, lavender infused goat cheese, Bronx-style breads, peanut butter cookie
