The thought of a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal is grand—unless you have to cook it. The solution? Easy. Have someone else do the cooking and all you have to do is make sure there are enough chairs.
The Bird
Stew Leonard’s (1 Stew Leonard Dr, Yonkers 914-375-4700) offers marinated cooked turkeys (serves 8-10 for $70, 15-18 for $90) plus roasted sliced turkey breast served in natural juices and gravy made from fresh turkey stock.
The Rye Country Store (41 Purchase St, Rye 914-967-3450) will deliver one of its pre-roasted turkeys ($4/lb) anywhere in the county ($10-$15).
You can pick up your free-range Misty Knoll Farms Vermont-cooked turkey ($10/lb) as late as Thanksgiving Day at Plates (121 Myrtle Blvd, Larchmont 914-834-1244).
Boutique Kosher catering company Avril Kaye Caterers (160 Summerfield St, Scarsdale 914-472-7712) is the place for a kosher sliced, roasted turkey with a sherry-tomato glaze (12-14 lb, approx $140, gravy included).
Apps and Sides
Neal Hirsch, former proprietor of North Salem Cuisine, now runs Moonlight Caterers (914-384-1799), which delivers anywhere in the county. Try his wild berry-and-Gorgonzola tartlets (12 for $18), bread stuffing with roasted shallots ($7.99/lb), Brussels sprouts with toasted walnuts ($9.99/lb), and roasted maple acorn squash ($9.99/lb). Order before November 19th; food will be delivered by Wednesday, November 25th.
New Rochelle-based meal delivery service Dinner in Hand (914-380-5084) also proffers top-quality sides (south county and select north county towns only) including cran-apple cornbread stuffing ($21, 6-8 portions), haricots vert with almonds and dried cherries ($27, 6 portions), roasted parsnips and carrots ($16.50, 6 portions), and chunky cranberry relish ($12, 6-8 portions). Orders must be received by Friday, November 20.
Whole Foods Market (100 Bloomingdale Rd, White Plains, 914-288-1300) sells cheese appetizers on bamboo cutting-boards ($60, 12 servings): American (Vermont brie, Humboldt Fog, Point Reyes blue, Grafton two-year cheddar plus cranberry nut mix and crackers); French (Brie de Paris, Morbier, Bleu d’Auvergne, Istara plus pâté and mini-toasts); and Italian (Robiola, aged provolone, Gorgonzola mountain, Cacio di Roma plus marinated olives and crostini).
Dessert
The 50-plus-year-old Galloway’s (69 Harney Rd, Scarsdale 914-725-4074) is a choice spot for deep-dish pies: apple, apple crumb, pecan, New England mince pie, lemon meringue, banana cream, chocolate cream, coconut cream, and pumpkin (about $18). Though the bakery is normally open Friday through Sunday only, it’ll be open Wednesday, November 25 as well.
Not sweet on pie? Try The Cupcake Kitchen’s (100 Main St, Irvington 914-231-6261) cupcake tree ($35) stacked with seasonally flavored cupcakes such as pumpkin with cream-cheese icing.
Lulu Cake Boutique (40 Garth Rd, Scarsdale 914-722-8300) has special seasonal treats (starting November 1): pumpkin-cognac cheesecake with candied ginger ($40, serves 10-12); Valrhona chocolate-bourbon organic pecan pie ($38, serves 10-12), seasonally flavored rugelach (cranberry-white chocolate, caramel-turtle pecan, and apple spice at $20/lb), and cupcakes (mango candied ginger, pumpkin spice cream-cheese, and a spiced peanut-butter ganache chocolate cupcake topped with pumpkin-seed brittle at $4 each).
