The TaSH Farmers’ Market was ranked one of the top 10 farmers’ markets in New York State, the only one in Westchester to do so.
Who doesn’t love a good farmers’ market trip? In Westchester, an abundance of markets offer the chance to shop local and support farms and makers in the region. Recently, one local farmers’ market has been named not just a top pick in Westchester, but all of New York.
The Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Farmers’ Market, better known as The TaSH, was voted the sixth best farmers’ market in New York State. This is the market’s first time being included in the ranking from the American Farmland Trust (AFT) and the Farmers Market Coalition.
The AFT is a national nonprofit founded in 1980 that works to protect farmland and its farmers by promoting environmentally-friendly practices. The Farmers Market Coalition is devoted to strengthening farmers’ markets across America.
If you’ve ever been to the TaSH farmers market, you’d know this award is well-deserved. What’s more, it was the only market in Westchester to be included in this nationwide competition, which took place in September. In total, TaSH received an impressive 550 votes during the competition.

“We truly think it is a special place. Situated in a beautiful park, it is a meeting place for our diverse community. With fresh, locally grown, sustainable food as its anchor, the market is also a hub for children’s educational and cultural activities, other local community organizations to share their good works, and diverse artists and musicians to perform,” says Suzanne Sorrentino, co-president of TaSH.
As for the history of the market, it was founded in 2015 by Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow residents. With each rendition, roughly 75 vendors and 1,500 customers swarm Patriots Park on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Customers can head home, year-round, with a selection of cheeses, meats, baked goods, beer, and so much more.
TaSH is focused on helping the community by doubling food stamp benefits for shoppers. For instance, SNAP customers can swipe $20 on their EBT card and purchase $40 worth of fresh groceries. Throughout October, TaSH will match up to $40 EBT, and customers can receive $80 to use throughout the market.
