As summer finally creeps up, we have officially entered ice cream season. In Shrub Oak, Seven Scoops delivers frozen custard, ice cream’s thicker, richer cousin, in the space that was previously Abbott’s. With seven delicious flavors — chocolate, vanilla, cookies ’n’ cream, chocolate-cookie crunch, coffee, Nutella, and banana (yes, I tried them all) — there’s something for everyone. My personal favorite is cookies ’n’ cream, but the top seller is a simple, classic vanilla.

In case you want to divulge your sweet tooth further, Seven Scoops offers homemade custard-cookie sandwiches. Chocolate chip and red velvet caught my eye, but the Reese’s, with actual chunks of peanut butter cups in the cookie and the custard, stole my heart.
There’s also a peanut butter Reese’s pie, an Oreo crust filled with two layers of vanilla custard separated by a layer of peanut butter. It’s topped with crushed Reeese’s and more peanut butter (I mean, why not?). Of course, I took a slice home for later.

What about the name? It’s not about the seven flavors on the menu. As owner Sean Davies simply puts it, “I am one of seven siblings.”
