National S’mores Day is August 10, and what better way to celebrate than to check out some local riffs on this favorite chocolate-marshmallow snack? Even if the cravings last longer than the day (as they should), these sweet treats will keep summer vibes going strong.
“S’mores are a classic campfire treat with the perfect combination of graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate,” says Tina Davis, manager of Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery. “At Smallcakes Scarsdale, we offer s’mores treats that capture the essence of the classic s’mores experience with inventive and creative touches. Our unique approach elevates the traditional s’mores, turning it into an upscale treat that surprises and delights.”
Check out how Smallcakes Scarsdale and other local eateries in Westchester put their own twist on this classic gooey-sweet summertime treat.
S’mores Galore
Scarsdale’s dessert joint Smallcakes specializes in cupcakes and serves up a smorgasbord of themed treats for the August 10 celebration. On the menu is the classic s’mores cupcake (chocolate cupcake with a graham-cracker crust at the bottom and a marshmallow filling, topped with the perfect graham cracker, fudge, and toasted-marshmallow combo). There’s also a variation called the Booze n’ S’mores, which is the same cupcake but topped with Smallcakes’ signature fudge frosting and, of course, a small shooter of the perfect s’mores-inspired booze.
Other cupcakes on the menu include a s’mores sugar cookie cupcake (similar chocolate cupcake with graham cracker crust and marshmallow, but this time, topped with marshmallow buttercream and a s’mores sugar cookie). But that’s not all. There are even more themed desserts on the menu: the s’mores cookie, chocolate chip s’mores cookie, and s’mores whoopie pie.

Shake Things Up
Bona Bona in Baldwin Place and Port Chester starts us off strong with its over-the-top Italian Campfire Milkshake: smooth Nutella-s’mores ice cream served in a Nutella-rimmed glass with whipped cream, roasted marshmallows, and salted graham cracker crumble. You can order the ice cream solo or try your luck with the s’mores lava cake, a Valrhona chocolate cake topped with graham cracker ice cream and whip. In addition, you can order the warm brownie sundae and swap out the vanilla ice cream with graham cracker ice cream to make the ultimate gooey summer treat. And this is, of course, topped with the famous toasted Italian meringue for which Bona Bona is known.

Roast Your Own
Sometimes the hands-on experience of turning marshmallows over the fire until they’re perfectly golden brown is the best part of enjoying summer’s favorite treat. Stop short of starting a fire pit in your backyard and head over to the White Plains’ Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ for the real deal. At this North American chain with one Westchester location, diners cook their own meats and seafood — but the s’mores are a crowd favorite.
