Get bowl’d over with these health-conscious concoctions.Â
While açai and pitaya bowls have been making waves in the big city for years, they are only now invading our health-conscious county. These smoothie bowls are simply frozen fruit blended and then placed into a bowl, along with toppings ranging from almond butter and bee pollen to star fruit and goji berries. At one time, açai bowls — which feature the eponymous berry as a major ingredient — were the only way to go. Now there is a veritable rainbow of different smoothie bowls to be had, from kale-infused green bowls to banana bowls and more.
Green Machine
If the idea of a green bowl weirds you out, have no fear: This is one super-tasty smoothie bowl. Playa Bowls’ green bowls consist of a blend of kale, coconut milk, pineapple, and banana. Our favorite option is the Pacific, which is topped with granola, strawberries, shaved almonds, and banana.

Pink Paradise
Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, is yet another red-hot ingredient in smoothie bowls. Among Westchester’s best is the Pitaya Bowl at Sobol in White Plains. This tasty creation boasts a bright-pink dragon-fruit puree topped with Sobol’s house-made granola, mango, kiwi, pineapple, coconut, and a generous drizzle of honey. Customers can also add specialty toppings, like cookie butter and chia seeds.

Crowd Pleaser
Playa Bowls boasts a lot of tasty concoctions, but its Nica Bowl is probably the most accessible. A banana bowl consisting simply of bananas blended with honey and almond milk, this iteration is topped with cacao nibs, granola, walnuts, strawberries, peanut butter, and more bananas, of course.
