Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 17th! Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, founded by Pete Seeger, will be hosting its 2nd Annual Chefs for Clearwater culinary event at 4 p.m. at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. The event will help raise awareness of sustainable food production and how it relates to the Hudson Valley watershed.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser to support Clearwater’s environmental education and advocacy programs on the Hudson River. “The health of the Hudson River is critical to the region’s agriculture and food culture,” says Tim Ryan, CMC, EdD, president of the Culinary Institute of America.
“The Chefs for Clearwater benefit is an extraordinary event,” says Chef Terrance Brennan, event co-chair and lead organizer. “Guests will enjoy a six-course tasting menu featuring the best chefs, ingredients, and beverages from the Hudson Valley.” Case in point, items from the stellar menu will include raw heirloom tomato soup with tapenade crostini and whipped basil ricotta, as well as apple gateau with whey-caramel ice cream and oat-walnut crumble.
The event will feature six renowned chefs from Westchester and the Hudson Valley, including Chef Michael Kaphan, owner of Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish in North Salem and Tarrytown and Executive Chef Jay Lippin of Crabtree’s Kittle House in Chappaqua. Additionally, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Tom Chapin will serve as the master of ceremonies. “I am a great fan and longtime supporter of the important work that Clearwater does,” says Chapin. “I have had the great honor and pleasure to perform with Pete Seeger. This seems like a continuation of his work.”

Chefs for Clearwater will include live music, silent and live auctions, and a special address by guest speaker and author Peter Kaminsky. “We each have our own special reason for loving [the Hudson River],” he says. “For me, it has run all through my life. It’s my Mississippi and my Nile.”
