Get ready Westchester, the world famous fast-food giant Shake Shack is set to open its doors in a Yonkers shopping center later this year.
The long-awaited location will be the first in Westchester. It will open at a to-be-determined date at the Cross County Shopping Center, across from the clothing store ZARA, according to a press release from the shopping center.
What started as a stand-alone hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park in 2001 quickly expanded into a beloved worldwide chain. Restaurateur Danny Meyer started the cart in efforts to help revitalize the park. The cart quickly morphed into a kiosk known as Shake Shack. The hot dogs remained on the menu, but other American classics such as burgers, fries, and milkshakes were added. From there more locations opened across New York City and eventually the world.
Nearly 15 years since the hot dog cart opened, the chain has over 70 locations spread out across the globe in countries like the United Kingdom, Turkey, Russia, Japan and, of course, the United States.
The chain features a relatively standard menu across locations, but adds variations based on location. Often, that includes local craft beers. Although it has not been confirmed, it is expected that the new Yonkers location will feature a beer that is made within the Hudson Valley.
Last January, Shake Shack went public and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange with an estimated value of about $745 million. Following its market debut the company was valued at over $1.6 billion. Its average store revenue is even more than twice of fellow fast-food chain McDonald’s, proving that the burger giant has had no problem satisfying consumers.
