The great-granddaughter of the founder of Blue Ribbon Fish Company, Sasha Bernstein Skon offers fresh, responsibly sourced seafood in Westchester.
As the great-granddaughter of pioneer Nathan Samuels – founder of Blue Ribbon Fish Company – Sasha Bernstein Skon grew up with a deep appreciation for superior, fresh seafood. In October 2020, Skon launched her own seafood empire, Sasha’s Seafood Stand, in order to bring that same prime seafood to her own community.
“I had a direct line to the market, so during quarantine, I found myself cooking more seafood than ever before,” says Skon. “I realized others might like to be cooking this kind of quality seafood, too, and I wanted to help make it happen.”
Located at the TaSH Farmers’ Market, in Sleepy Hollow’s Patriots Park, Sasha’s Seafood Stand was well received, completely selling out the first day and bringing in three times the amount of ready-to-cook seafood just six weeks later.
With sustainability remaining a top priority for Skon, her customers can expect responsibly sourced and deliciously clean seafood, such as sushi-grade tuna, whole sea bass, wild swordfish, and Point Pleasant sea scallops.
She also recently launched a twice-a-month pop-up at Tarrytown’s Fit Inn, which has allowed her to have even more face-to-face interaction with her customers. “My favorite part of this experience has been meeting more of our food-loving neighbors,” she says. Skon also plans to provide a line of fresh marinades and sauces.
Sasha’s Seafood is available on Saturdays at the TaSH Farmers’ Market and on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Fit Inn. Preorders are available by email, at sasha@sashasseafood.com, and through www.sashasseafood.com.
