These New Westchester Bakeries Serve up the Sweetest Holiday Treats

Seven new bakeries are your new go-to sources for hostess gifts for the holidays, potlucks, or just an old-fashioned sugar hit.

Now that the holidays are in full swing, it’s safe to say sweet treats are on everybody’s minds. Over the past year or so (and even during quarantine) a fresh batch of bakeries popped up across Westchester, offering everything from French macarons to Bolo de Rolos. If you love pie, cake, or Fluffernutter donuts (and who doesn’t?), here’s what’s been cookin’ in the land of flour, butter, and sugar in Westchester.

Boleria Brazillian Bakery

Baking is more than just pastries for Carolina Figueiredo; it’s a reminder of what truly makes her happy in life. After a breast cancer diagnosis, Figueiredo reevaluated her life and chose to leave her 15-year career at Citibank to pursue becoming a pastry chef. In 2020, Figueiredo opened Boleria, offering traditional homemade goods like cookies, brownies, pies, as well as Brazilian treats like Brigadeiros (Brazilian truffles) and Bolo de Rolo, which is similar to the all-American Swiss Roll, known for its frequent guest appearances in metal lunchboxes of the ’70s.

Flour Power

If there’s one thing for sure, no matter what you treat yourself to at Flour Power, it will most certainly be made from the heart. Having met in culinary school back in 2013, BFFs Lauren and Miranda teamed up to follow their dreams and open a bakery together in their home state of New York. With a motto that goes, “Smash the pastryarchy and bake the world a better place,” it’s safe to say any of Lauren and Miranda’s treats will brighten the day. Fresh-from-the-oven offers include breakfast, breads, ice cream, cookies, bars, cupcakes, and more.

Noble Pies

Calling all pie lovers! Noble Pies, based in Warwick and a weekend score at local farmer’s markets, is now officially ensconced in the ‘Chester. With sweet pies, quiches, and pot pies, it’s safe to say Noble Pies is the place to go for anything crusted. You can find the brand’s many flavors like Will You Marry Me Cherry and Hudson Valley Apple at its new location, or your local farmers’ market, if you’re lucky.

Nothing Bundt Cakes

With franchises across the nation, Nothing Bundt Cakes settled into Westchester this fall. Truly serving “nothing bundt cakes,” the shop offers tiered bundt cakes large enough to feed an army of 26 or traditional eight- to 10-inch cakes for smaller parties. For those counting calories, go for a signature Bundtinis, bite-sized beauties sold by the dozen. Once you’ve chosen a size, sift through the 10 mouth-watering flavors, like carrot or white-chocolate raspberry, and choose traditional frosting or a lighter drizzle.

Petite Bretagne

Who needs a plane ticket to Paris when you have Petite Bretagne right here in Westchester? As the latest bakery to hit the area, Petite Bretagne leaves a strong first impression with an authentically French menu of pastries, baguettes, crepes, and, of course, French macarons. Plus, you know this place is the real deal when it writes its Instagram captions in both English and French. Pro tip: Check out the chocolate croissant for a taste of true Parisian culture.

Home-based baker Donna Ragusa brings bite-sized indulgences to Westchester and beyond. Mainly focused on custom cookies, Donna makes treats that can fit any theme and make your next party, favor, or gift both thoughtful and delicious. With an emphasis on simplicity, Donna’s cookies only contain the essentials: butter, sugar, a pinch of salt, egg, flour, and vanilla. Aside from cookies, Petite Sweets by Donna also offers custom cakes and cupcakes, and her treats can be shipped.

Side Door Donuts

That’s the secret password for one of the hottest tickets in town — mini donuts! — available only at Billy & Pete’s on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Knock on the restaurant’s side door three times, and mini donuts will magically appear! Sounds like heaven, right?
