New to Thornwood is The Thorn (607 Columbus Ave, Thornwood, 914.747.0626; thethornofthornwood.com), a Mediterranean restaurant offering flatbreads, mezze platters, grilled Spanish octopus, and pistachio falafel for starters; house-made gnocchi with lemon ricotta, maitake mushrooms, and broccoli rabe; grilled branzino with couscous tabbouleh; a lamb burger; and braised short ribs. For a signature cocktail, try The Thorn, with pomegranate, tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau.
Torcello Ristorante Italiano (2382 Boston Post Rd, Larchmont; 914.833.1118; torcellolarchmont.com) has debuted in the space where Giordano’s was. Roman-style artichokes, grilled octopus, beef carpaccio, and a fig-and-goat-cheese flatbread are starters to try. Mains include burrata ravioli; pappardelle with eggplant and fresh tomatoes; chicken with applewood bacon and mozzarella in a bourbon mushroom sauce; and a veal chop with shiitake mushrooms.
Port Chester native Richard Davis and Jessica Byrne, previously owners of Perdition in Hell’s Kitchen, have opened Haven Bar & Restaurant (125 N Main St, Port Chester; 914.481.4777; haven-portchester.com). Davis, an alum of Johnson & Wales University’s College of Culinary Arts, is executive chef and serves a selection of globally inspired small plates (e.g., African seven-spice mixed nuts, chicken katsu sando, nori shoestring fries with Japanese curry sauce, veggie banh mi). The beverage program includes six wines on tap, 12 draft brews, 30 beers in bottles/cans, and creative cocktails, including the Rainforest (Malibu rum, Midori, pineapple juice, coconut shaving rim), Dragoneye (Absolut Mandrin, sake, fresh lychee, dragon fruit purée), and the Haven Help Us (Amaretto, Kahlua, Grand Marnier, coffee, fresh cream).
After 27 years in business, Graziella’s (99 Church St, White Plains) has shuttered; Mini’s Latin Fusion (237 Main St, New Rochelle) has also closed.
One Rare Italian Steakhouse (16 Eastern Pkwy, Scarsdale) is expected to have opened by press time in the space that once held Zachys.
