Celebrate Cinco de Mayo With These Flavored Margaritas

You’re drinking margaritas this weekend, right? This year, you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo — the Mexican army’s victory over the French Empire — in Westchester by sipping on some unique versions of the popular Mexican cocktail.

Head to VEGA in Hartsdale to toast the historic victory with a Guava-rita. The fruit is native to Mexico and has a tart taste equivalent to a grapefruit-strawberry hybrid. The pink color pops, making the day feel much more tropical, like you’re only a few sips away from a day spent poolside.

Over in Bronxville, Blue Moon Cafe takes the heat up a notch. The Wolf margarita features orange juice, lime juice, and fresh jalapeños. It’s like a screwdriver without the innocence that comes from being served at breakfast. Make sure you keep an extra glass of water on hand for this spicy drink.

At Lola’s Mexican Kitchen in White Plains the margaritas pack a punch. The Grande Margarita lives up to its name with 16-oz of fun flavors like piña colada, served on the rocks or frozen. Be sure to come back on Mondays, too, when they’re half price — only $5 from 7 p.m. until close.

Briarcliff Manor is home to Guadalajara, a Westchester favorite when it comes to Mexican cuisine. Their drink menu boasts a ginger margarita that’s strikes a sweet-spicy balance.

At La Chinita Poblana in Irvington, the mezcal margarita mixes up the traditional ingredients. Also distilled from the agave plant, the Mexican spirit is mixed with Grand Marnier, lime juice, orange juice, and grapefruit juice for a very citrusy cocktail.
