With classic, fancy, and vegetarian versions popping up on local menus, these go-to BECs make breakfast so much better in Westchester County.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and, when it comes to Westchester’s BEC offerings, it can also be the best meal of the day. Check out these spots for fancy, over-the-top, vegetarian, or just plain classic bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. Salt-pepper-ketchup is entirely up to you.

The Bus at Salinger’s Orchard

230 Guinea Rd, Brewster

The breakfast sammie from the chef and crew behind The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry can be found in a converted school bus parked in an orchard just over the Westchester County line. Made with thick homemade bacon, white cheddar, crisp potatoes, and spicy ketchup, the “Brewster BEC” is served between toasted English muffins and is sure to satisfy your cravings, and then some. A gluten-free bun is there for the asking and, if you’re looking for more, The Bus always has new specials.

GE Brown

652 Old Post Rd, Bedford; 914.234.3185

Described as “the best in Bedford,” this beauty can be served on challah, multigrain bread, a whole wheat wrap, or gluten-free bread, and it comes with two eggs, double-smoked bacon, and classic cheddar cheese. To wash it down, there’s locally roasted coffee and espresso.

The Grange

158 Larchmont Ave, Larchmont; 914.341.1463

At this new breakfast and lunch spot, a little twist on the tried and true classic goes a long way with two fried eggs, bacon, crispy cheddar, and zippy harissa sauce on a warm potato bun. Substitute for a gluten-free bun and add avocado in place of bacon for even more variety or a creation resembling a veggie BEC. Pro tip: Finish up with NYC crumb cake or a bubble tea for a truly remarkable breakfast in Westchester.

Rooster’s Market

48 Gedney Way, White Plains; 914.949.7202

Craving a traditional BEC without any frills? Look no further than The Roo; it’s as classic as classic gets with two eggs, bacon, and American cheese. While it’s sizzling on the grill, take the opportunity to pick up a few staples in the Rooster’s grocery market or consider the “sandwich of the week” for lunch because you can never be too prepared. Rooster’s Market is open 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. only, so plan ahead if you want to pick up a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich here.

Sweet Grass Grill

24 Main St, Tarrytown; 914.631.0000

For a fancy BEC, this is your HQ. Fried farm eggs, house-smoked bacon, New York cheddar, tomato jam, and crispy garlic potatoes make up the breakfast-ready sandwich. Take it to the next level with caramelized onions or extra bacon because, really, go big or go home.
