9 Places In Westchester To Celebrate World Nutella Day

A few years ago, you nearly lost your right to celebrate World Nutella Day. That’s right: Ferrero, manufacturer of the 50-year-old hazelnut chocolate spread, was so peeved about the upstart, unofficial holiday that they tried to end it in 2013. Kind of like canceling Christmas. In the face of the ensuing uproar, they chose to back down. Because the world. Loves. Nutella.

I don’t know. I can take or leave the stuff. I like it, but it’s not something I crave. On the other hand, part of its strange power over humans is its ability to transform ordinary foods into siren-song temptations. The name alone, preceding the name of any other food, brings people to their knees. Eataly in Manhattan has even replaced its wine shop with a Nutella bar. The world has gone mad.

But even I must admit that when I heard about the items below, all I could think was: “Nutella!”

1) Artuso Pastry (Mamaroneck): Nutella cappuccino (as good as it sounds).

2) Starbucks “Secret Menu” Nutella drink? What?!

3) Westchester Burger Company (White Plains): Italian Nutella milkshake. You know you want one.

4) Zuppa (Yonkers): Nutella-braised short ribs, acclaimed by the New York Times. There’s nothing Nutella can’t do.

5) Dobbs Dawg House (Dobbs Ferry): The IHOP hot dog: Nutella, bacon, bananas, maple syrup, cinnamon sugar, and powdered sugar. Because they could.

6) Main Street Sweets (Tarrytown): Nutella ice cream. Yum!

7) Cooked & Co (Scarsdale): Banana Nutella Crunch muffin. The dollop of Nutella on top only hints at what’s inside.

8) Pour (Mount Kisco): Nutella panini house special dessert (to help take the edge off that rare whiskey)

9) Frankie and Fanucci’s Wood Oven Pizzeria (Mamaroneck, Hartsdale): Nutella S’mores dessert pizza: Nutella with caramelized marshmallow and graham-cracker crumbs on a wood-fired pizza crust. (Pizza for dinner followed by pizza for dessert? Of course. There’s always room for Nutella.)
