For Lev Gedrich, ice cream is a happy food — it universally brings people together. And with the opening of Pros & Cones in the heart of downtown Mamaroneck, Gedrich knows he can make many more people happy.
The shop, two years in the making, is dedicated to the production and perfection of handcrafted ice cream made every few days on-site. Gedrich places tremendous importance on natural ingredients. “I’m avoiding the use of preservatives at all costs,” he says. “I want to give folks a high-quality product, which is another reason why we’ve imported Italian gelato machines to make the ice cream.”
With a revolving door of both creative flavor combos and classics, the shop is designed to be a place of discovery — a place you can always count on for something new, but also something dependable. “It’s just continuous experimentation,” says Gedrich about becoming an ice cream mad scientist. “Every week or two we introduce a new flavor or two and cycle it. We’re always adding stuff that’s new.” While some of the most sought-after flavors are cosmic brownie and ricotta cream cheese with fig, the simple but effective vanilla remains in the top three. Sporting sorbets and dairy-free options in tandem, the gambit is run on all creamy confections.

In addition to the ice cream, the shop is also making cotton candy, with plans to add hot chocolate and coffee so customers can sit a spell. In a constant state of innovation, Gedrich’s goal is simple: bring a community together while keeping fun, light, and most importantly, delicious.
