With the opening of Port Chester Hall and Beer Garden, bartaco now has serious competition for its rep as the village’s go-to outdoor dining destination. It’s located in an 1890s train station, and many of the fin-de-siècle building details were preserved and/or retooled with vintage lighting, seating, wooden tap handles and barrels, and century-old murals. The highlight of the building’s revamp, however, is the beer garden and pavilion featuring communal tables built from wood floorboards from Northwest Pacific Railroad train cars and two 20-foot-tall stone fireplaces.
The gastropub-style menu pairs with 10 brewed-in-house craft beer selections—English, Belgian, German, and American—created by Director of Brewing Kelly Taylor. On the menu: Maui fish tacos with mango salsa; bacon-and-chicken mac and cheese; ahi tuna burger with ginger slaw; smoked rib-eye sandwich with caramelized onions; aged cheddar, tomato, and avocado melt on rosemary Pullman bread; and a poached-salmon citrus salad. Main dishes range from $12 to $23. Approximately a third of the menu is gluten-free.
The company behind Port Chester Hall also owns Houston Hall, Flatiron Hall, and multiple locations of Heartland Brewery in Manhattan.
Two Metro-North ticket windows are inside the main entrance; the restaurant operates a coffee stand for commuters from 6 am to 11 am, Monday to Friday.
