Path Coffee Roasters’ Jason Richter Gives the ‘Scoop’ on the Bean House

All the work — and work ethic — that goes into brewing a grade-A cup of java.

There is nothing like a good cup o’ joe. Jason Richter has known the power of brew since his youth. As a fourth-generation roaster, Richter grew up working at his father’s coffee company, Empire Coffee Roasters in Port Chester. In 2013, after realizing he’d inherited the family passion for coffee, Richter launched Path Coffee Roasters “to provide seasonal specialty coffees year-round to people in Westchester.”

Coffees are sourced from Central America, South America, and Africa, and Richter likes to have direct connections to the farmer or co-op growing his coffees. He also put an emphasis on balanced roasting, something he perfects in his new tasting room, which opened earlier this year.

Richter says Path is the only professional training-and-classroom space for coffee professionals and home baristas in Westchester. Enhance your java knowledge with a cupping demo, which traces the process from farm to roaster. You can end by sampling several cups of varying strength, each brewed differently — from strong bitter to optimal to weak underdeveloped. Richter also offers themed classes, like chocolate-and-coffee pairings (his wife is a chocolate expert).
