The burger at Cafe of Love is a hormone- and antibiotic-free, 100% grass-fed beef patty sourced locally, with farm veggies and house pickles on a local artisan brioche bun. Toppings rotate seasonally, like bacon and heirloom tomato in summer or sharp Vermont cheddar and crispy and sautéed apples in fall. As with all things by chef/owner Leslie Lampert, flavors are layered, balanced, and married in just the warmest ways.

The best bite of the Umami Burger (pictured above) at Exit 4 happens just after you break the yolk of the wood-fired, sunny-side-up egg. The golden center spills over everything, working its way into the nooks and crannies of the Pat LaFrieda-sourced patty, dressing the Asian slaw, mixing with gooey bits of mild Muenster cheese and making the whole mess taste so, so good.

Even in the doldrums of winter, the Black Angus burger at Winston bursts with tomato flavor. Year-round, the tomatoes are roasted for a sweet punch of umami that complements the nutty Grùyere (you can also ask for cheddar), caramelized onions, and tangy whole-grain mustard aioli.
