The New York Botanical Gardens Train Show is a terrific holiday tradition. A selection of model trains zip around iconic buildings, bridges, and scenery created entirely of natural materials. While it’s fun to marvel at the exhibit with children, the Gardens’ Bar Car Nights were invented entirely for adults.
Cocktails are sold all evening long and can be enjoyed while roaming the grounds or sitting around the fire pit in the Visitor Center. The Gardens feature a different specialty holiday-themed cocktail each week: The Mistletoe, on December 22 and 23, is made with tequila, apple juice, and fresh lime juice, while the Fireside, on December 29 and 30, features cinnamon whiskey and ginger ale.
The NYBG also features dueling pianos at the Pine Tree Café on bar car nights.
Held on specific evenings throughout the season (specifically December 1, 2, 8, 9, 22, 23, 29, and 30; January 6 and 13) from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., events do sell out so advanced purchase of tickets is recommended. Visit www.nybg.org for more information.
