It’s been 10 years since lifelong Greenwich resident Mike Geller left the corporate world in the dust to run a farm-to-home delivery service — first out of his parents’ house, then from a warehouse in Stamford. To mark the occasion, Gellar has launched a retail marketplace and food-education hub in his current pack-and-ship space in Stamford and is expanding his route to include more ZIP codes in Westchester. “I want to be a direct conduit to the highest-quality, most responsibly sourced food in the area,” he says.
Over the past decade, Mike’s Organic has connected consumers with small farmers, fisherman, and producers by delivering (for a flat $10 fee) organic, locally raised produce, meats, and dairy to doorsteps in mostly the eastern part of the 914. Now, addresses as far west as Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, and even Yonkers, have been added to the delivery zone, bringing convenient farm-fresh abundance to many more Westchester tables.
Just over the border, in Stamford (not far from Old Greenwich), Geller has also transformed his delivery HQ into Mike’s Organic Market, featuring highly curated, artisanal items ranging from organic produce, pastured meats, and grass-fed dairy, to cold-pressed juices, CBD products, and blankets and hats from local sheepherders. There’s room for wellness and cooking classes, pop-up events (think smoothie making and sheep shearing), and farm-to-table parties where guests (up to 150) can learn “what the chicken ate before they eat the chicken,” explains Geller.
Geller, turning 40, has visited a local farm (plus some in California and Alaska) every week since 2009 and had two dozen farmers at his wedding — in cocktail dresses and tuxes. Just another way of realizing his dream to provide the “most unique food experience in the area.”
