Nicole Bochinis opened up Baked to Perfection from her home in 2016. This self-starter works alone, taking orders, baking, and even delivering the cupcakes.
Studying at the Institute of Culinary Education, Bochinis began her career working in the city. Wanting to grow as a baker, she decided the commute and city environment weren’t for her, sparking the idea to start her own business.
“This is what I love to do,” says Bochinis.
The first cupcake she ever made was the peanut butter and jelly. From there, she’s expanded to other flavors such as cannoli, chocolate chip cookie dough, and Oreo. For the adults only: alcohol-infused cupcakes such as Bailey’s chocolate and chocolate and Jägermeister.
“I’m able to play around with different tastes,” says Bochinis. “It’s fun to try different flavors, fillings, and frostings. I take polls on what flavors people want to see and I do a lot of recipe testing.”
Bochinis also meets the customers’ needs by making sure she can create cupcakes gluten-free, nut-free, and vegan.
For a one-woman show, each order is made efficiently, taking only two to three days to prepare.
“I try to bake my cupcakes the day of or the day before the event because I want the freshest quality,” says Bochinis. “I really pride myself on that.”
This adaptable cupcake baker has done events such as baby showers, cast parties, engagements parties, birthdays, and craft fairs. She hopes to soon work for weddings.
When not working on orders, Bochinis is busy back in school studying business at Westchester Community College to learn more about how she can grow her company.
What’s in the future for this young baker? She wants to continue growing in a new location.
“I am eventually looking to rent out a kitchen space,” says Bochinis. “This way I will be able to fill larger orders and work with cakes, since my kitchen at home isn’t big enough to do that.”
