5 Marvelous Matcha Treats in Westchester County

Matcha pops up in all kinds of desserts and drinks in Westchester County, including tiramisu, crepes, and more.

So, you’ve expanded beyond pumpkin spice lattes to matcha? You may already be a step ahead of the crowd, but we’d challenge you to take it even further. Matcha powder, made from ground green tea, has a unique flavor proven to work well in lattes, but that’s not the only way its subtle, delicious profile can shine. We’ve scoped out other ways local businesses are getting creative with matcha.

Matcha Bubble Tea at Go Greenly

1109 Central Park Ave, Scarsdale; 914.713.8693

If you’d still prefer to have your matcha in beverage form, try bubble tea. This one is made with almond milk for a creamy and decadent yet plant-based option. Plus, who doesn’t love the texture of tapioca bubbles?

Matcha Tiramisu at Gyu-Kaku

159 Main St, White Plains; 914.358.5206

This Japanese take on an Italian classic is a must-try for matcha fanatics and first-timers alike. White cake ladyfingers are soaked in matcha and layered with matcha cream, and the whole thing is dusted in matcha powder. Don’t worry, there is no such thing as too matcha (we had to do it).

Matcha Lemonade at Hastings Tea & Coffee

It’s safe to assume we all have a childhood fondness for lemonade, whether it’s from lemonade stands or warm summer nights. This version holds onto the familiar sweetness of the classic drink but elevates the flavor with matcha powder. The combination balances the sweet-bitter flavors in a way that will leave you wondering why you didn’t think of it yourself. Last summer, there was an iced strawberry matcha drink, so keep your eyes peeled for cool matcha combos once the warmer weather arrives.

Matcha Crepes at T-Swirl Crepes

151 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.358.9295
102 Mall Walk, Yonkers; 914.375.3028

This nationwide chain brings two locations of yummy Japanese-style crepes to Westchester. The expansive menu features two matcha-centric crepes: the matcha chocolate truffles and the matcha azuki bean. The former, better suited for someone just getting to know the flavor, features sliced strawberries, chocolate truffles, matcha custard cream, whipped yogurt, chocolate sauce, and crushed pistachios. The latter pairs matcha with another traditional Japanese flavor, red bean, for the more cultured. It includes sliced strawberries, red bean, matcha custard cream, whipped yogurt, matcha ice cream, almonds, and chocolate Pocky sticks.
