Mad Love for Ladle of Love

Celebrating the Mount Kisco shop’s “seemingly unending” variety of handmade soups.

One of the best things about the 400-square-foot grab-and-go shop Ladle of Love (Mount Kisco) is the seemingly unending variety in the rotation of handmade soup offerings. And, of course, how damn slurpable and tasty they are. There are the classics like beef barley, clam chowder, chicken noodle, vegetable, and tomato but also more unique selections such as Harvest Celebration (butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, Granny Smith apples) and chicken curry.

Owner Leslie Lampert, a former Ladies Home Journal editor who wrote many food features and who also owns farm-to-table bistro Café of Love, has expanded the shop’s offerings since opening in 2003 to include stews (try the hearty Parisian chicken), panini, and salads. More recently she’s added Love on the Run, a delivery service. Most important to remember however: slurping is allowed with a Ladle of Love soup. What to order? Tomato and basil soup, chicken noodle soup, shrimp and corn chowder, chicken dumpling soup, or the signature Harvest Celebration (butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, Granny Smith apples).
