Live Lavishly With Brunch and a Movie This Weekend

Brunch options in Westchester have seriously improved over the past few years. When the weekend rolls around, you can go traditional at an elegant buffet, sample your way through a small-plates prix-fixe, listen to live jazz over your Eggs Benny, or even do international with Indian brunches, pan-Latin menus, and Chinese dim sum.

Or, you could go to brunch and a movie. In Dobbs Ferry, City Perch and its adjoining iPic Theaters offer a decadent way to spend an afternoon.

Start with the food. City Perch’s $19.99 brunch box allows you to pair any entrée with a drink (think Mimosa, Bloody Mary of Moscow Mule. The menu includes James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Sherry Yard’s Infamously Decadent French Toast, stuffed with fresh berries and whipped mascarpone. There are comforting dishes like biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles with bacon-maple syrup, and poached eggs served over creamy mascarpone polenta with short rib and kale. Don’t hesitate to shell out a few extra bucks for extras like a sticky strips of bacon that have been candied with brown sugar; addictive herb-and-garlic latke fries; and the monkey-bred babka with cinnamon, cocoa, and hazelnut-chocolate sauce.

To make the experience truly extra, you can spoon caviar or shave truffles all over your meal. There’s also affordable supplement to make brunch bottomless (because, why not?).

Afterward, mosey across the bar area — maybe pause for a few rounds of foosball — to iPic Theaters for a movie. The luxury theaters are intimate (there are only about 50 seats in each screening room) and offer premium amenities like cushy recliners, blankets, and a full food and drink menu. Reserve in advance to get a pair of premium plus seats, private pods that come with free popcorn and waiter service at the push of a button. The food can be pricey, but the wine, beer, and craft cocktails are reasonably priced. If these seats are a little rich for your taste, get a standard premium seat instead. You’ll still be seeing the latest flick in luxurious comfort, but without waiter service, and free snacks. (You’ll have to settle for the very upscale concession stand instead.) Either way, it’s an experience you should try at least once — and maybe more than that.
