Kitchen Retrospective

HAMPTONS INSPIRED Armonk

Designer: Architect Val Florio, Sag Harbor
The cathedral ceiling, wenge cabinets, white CesarStone counters, and sleek furnishings give the kitchen contemporary chic. The family considers it their home’s epicenter with room enough for cooking, eating, socializing, and doing homework. The pizza-ready Gaggenau oven, 60-inch Wolf range, two 48-inch Sub-Zeros, and foot-pedal-operated prep sink also make it a chef´s dream.

ECO-CORRECT Croton-on-Hudson

Designer: Architect Peter Alusitz
The sophisticated countertop is Silestone-brand quartz, which has the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute’s indoor air-quality certification. The Kashmere cleft slate floor retains the winter sun’s heat all through the night. And the work triangle is so well designed that four cooks can work comfortably together: green and efficient. The backsplash behind the Viking range is made of custom ceramic tiles.

A TOUCH OF PROVENCE Harrison

Designer: Homeowner
A seamless blend of rustic and sleek, old and new, gives this kitchen panache: cabinet doors made of burlap covered with chicken wire next to a stainless Sub-Zero. An old European door was repurposed into an oversize table that seats 12, while the ceiling’s reclaimed beams were found in Southampton.

SOPHISTICATED COUNTRY North Salem

Designer: Bilotta Kitchens
Maria Bilotta (yes, of Bilotta Kitchen fame) Distefano’s 400-square-foot kitchen boasts a large hearth area with a stainless-steel dual-fuel Wolf range surrounded by crackled rectangular tiles, sconces, and an antique glass mirror. The 48-inch, side-by-side Sub-Zero is paneled in the same cherry as the cabinets; the wide, multipurpose island was designed for both food prep and light dining. The dining table’s copper top along with the copper trim edging the pizza oven (far right) was custom-made; honed limestone floors have decorative metal inserts that match the copper table top.

GREEN DREAM Armonk

Designer: Bilotta Kitchens
At the risk of sounding immodest, we think Westchester Magazine’s Dream Home kitchen is, well, pretty dreamy. The centerpiece is a massive antique white oak center island salvaged from a 19th-century grain mill and accented with hammered metal corners, inspired by a Louis Vuitton trunk. The floors and ceiling beams are reclaimed wood; Rutt cabinets, finishes, and varnishes are also eco-friendly.

CHIC TRANSITIONAL Scarsdale

Designer: Karen Williams, St. Charles of New York
This 16-by-22-foot kitchen is defined by curves: the arc of the islands, the camelback slabs of Calacatta Gold marble behind the sink. To enliven the classic white St. Charles cabinets, the ranges, professional-style refrigerator/freezer, and double wall oven and warming drawer are clad in the stainless steel, complemented by a custom-designed range hood of brushed nickel trimmed with polished nickel bands.
