Memorial Day is the inauguration of summer — barbecues, booze, and fireworks (depending on who your neighbors are). Jazz up your party this year and spare your guests the dingy cooler full of subpar beer by springing for a keg. Not only is it a more fiscally responsible decision, but you’ll be serving the freshest suds in the neighborhood. Here’s where in Westchester you can go to score a keg.
Broken Bow Brewery
173 Marbledale Rd, Tuckahoe, 914.268.0900
This family-owned and -operated microbrewery has hung its hat on its beer recipes being best enjoyed in the company of friends and family. Could you name a better-themed brew for a kickoff to summer? Offering everything from lagers to stouts and even ciders, the rotating brews always excite. Give the brewery a ring and, depending on what’s on tap and what supply looks like, you could be walking out with a keg the next day.

Captain Lawrence
444 Saw Mill River Rd, Elmsford; 914.741.2337
Of course, the marquee brewery of Westchester rolls out kegs of some of its best brews. Pro tip: When grilling, you can’t go wrong with the crowd-pleasing, classic lager. (And if you’re looking for something for those friends who don’t like beer, Captain Lawrence also sells cans of its new spiked seltzer that’s 10% ABV). There is one simple request of the brewery for after the fact: When your soiree is done, please bring the kegs back.

Half Time
139 Hoyt Ave, Mamaroneck; 914.341.1666
Housing a vast variety of international and domestic beer, Half Time never disappoints — and has a brew for everyone’s palate. You can choose from either a full-sized keg of a standard beer or several mini-kegs of smaller, more specialized beers. Cheers!

Marlowe Artisanal Ales
139 Hoyt Ave, Mamaroneck; 914.412.0016
Marlowe is one of the new kids on the block in Westchester’s beer scene, but its splash is monstrous. With the varieties of Helles Lager (try Sonder) and multiple iterations of IPAs (like the No Return), there’s a sip for the most persnickety party guest. Try to give the brewery as much lead time as you can, and when you call ask to speak to Ricky or Zach. You know the vibes.

Run and Hide Brewery
223 1/2 Westchester Ave, Port Chester; 914.305.1352
A beloved Westchester watering hole, Run and Hide makes it impossible to pass up drinking beer with names like “Remember Your First Beer,” “Your Mom’s Best Friend,” and the Italian pilsner, “Stick With Grandma.” Having a keg of any of Tim Shanley’s micro-brewed beauties will have your friends swooning and bragging in no time. (Editor’s Note: We’re pretty partial to Stick With Grandma).

Shannon Beverages
439 North Ave, New Rochelle; 914.632.1115
Offering a good selection of beer in its own right, this liquor store also has kegs available for all of your, well, keg needs, and at an affordable price point, too. Be sure to call well enough in advance, as it can take a few days for Shannon to get the keg together.
