Jimmy’s Soft Serve Ice Cream Truck

In a county where there’s a Carvel in every other town and a Good Humor truck at every soccer and baseball game, Jimmy’s Soft Serve (914-909-2417; also on Facebook) has been successfully pumping out cool treats since 2008. Owner Jimmy Annicharico, a Tarrytown resident whose regular job is as a route salesman for Poland Spring, was inspired to purchase a food truck after watching a show about ice cream on the Food Network. The key to good soft-serve ice cream? “Freshness,” says Annicharico. “I don’t keep a lot of product around.” Besides vanilla and chocolate soft serve ($3 cup or cone; $3.50 with toppings;), there are milkshakes and Hawaiian shaved ice ($3). Annicharico does have food service in his family tree: His father owned the Windjammer restaurant in Irvington in the 1980s and early ’90s. Jimmy’s can usually be found chugging about the ball fields in Irvington and Tarrytown; the truck is also available for private parties (“even booking more adults’ parties than kids’”) and corporations. “There’s nothing wrong with Good Humor, but, hey, I’m the little guy.”
