It's National Cheesecake Day!

Decadent, smooth, AND flaky? What’s not to love?

If the thought of cheesecake, with its decadent, smooth top and flaky crust, has you already adjusting your belt buckle, you’re in luck: Today is National Cheesecake Day.

This dessert may be a part of New York culture just as much as bagels or angry drivers, but when it comes to cheesecake, messing with a classic isn’t always a bad thing. In honor of the holiday, we’ve rounded up eight cheesecakes from local eateries that put a spin on the classic New York version. Start Slideshow »

Alsatian Cheesecake with Riesling

71 Water Grant St, Yonkers

(914) 965-1111; www.xaviars.com

This little French number is out for our hearts: X2O’s Alsatian Cheesecake has a filling made with mascarpone cheese, folded into a New York Riesling sabayon atop a chocolate shortbread crust. It’s topped off with berry compote and a scoop of strawberry frozen yogurt.

Meyer Lemon Cheesecake

430 Bedford Rd, Armonk

When life gives you lemons, cheesecake is (apparently) the way to go. Vanilla beans and lemon juice are baked into the filling of this zesty dessert from Armonk’s family-owned Moderne Barn. The cheesecake is complete with a brown sugar graham cracker crust, ginger cherry compote, and Tahitian vanilla crème fraîche.

Salted Caramel Cheesecake

238 Green St, Tarrytown

(914) 366-7889; sunsetcove.net

The creamy yet fluffy texture of this salted caramel cheesecake makes it one of the best-selling desserts on Sunset Cove’s summer menu, and it’s the perfect end to a meal overlooking the Hudson. This sweet and salty treat is also gluten-free.

Cheesecake Chimichangas

7 Pondfield Rd #27, Bronxville

(914) 337-4000; www.bluemoonmexicancafe.com

So maybe this dessert isn’t technically cheesecake, but it has the elements of one. This delicious curveball consists of cheesecake wrapped in lightly fried tortillas, rolled in cinnamon and sugar, and drizzled with a caramel sauce. This favorite Blue Moon dessert has been on the menu at the café’s Bronxville location for 10 years.

Coconut Cheesecake with Rum Toffee

14 Memorial Hwy, New Rochelle

(914) 654-6549; www.alvinandfriendsrestaurant.com

Alvin & Friends’ Coconut Cheesecake may be a tropical take on a traditional dish, but this treat is old-fashioned at its core. Its buttery graham cracker crust is made with just a dash of cinnamon, and its ingredients are mixed very slowly, giving the filling an extra-creamy texture. The cake is garnished with swirls of whiskey anglaise, raspberry coulis, house-made caramel sauce, and fresh strawberries.

Cheesecake in a Jar

65 King St, Chappaqua

(914) 238-8300; sherryb.com

sherry b dessert studio is known for its funky treats, and the cheesecake is no exception. The filling is chilled instead of baked, and all ingredients are made in-house from scratch. The jar’s portability makes this cheesecake perfect for a picnic, a dinner party, or on the go.

Sprout Creek Farm Goat Cheesecake

11 Kittle Rd, Chappaqua

(914) 666-8044; www.kittlehouse.com

Crabtree’s Kittle House’s take on the dessert is truly “New York” cheesecake. The eggs in this dish are locally sourced, and the goat cheese comes from a nonprofit farm in Poughkeepsie. The crumbly, ginger cookie crust gives it the perfect base.
