The Herb Society of America’s New York Unit, will hold its 66th (talk about a tradition!) Annual Herb Fair on the grounds of John Jay Homestead in Katonah on Thursday, September 18. Sample and purchase specialties that members have made with the year’s harvest: pesto, chutneys, preserves, grapefruit lovage jelly, and zucchini relish, among many others. Wander among tables full of items for sale including herbs and other plants (members can advise on use and cultivation), baskets of fruits and vegetables, local honey, potpourri, books, and gift items. While you’re there, why not pick up the herb-oriented lunch, to include herbal sandwiches, sage cookies, and the group’s popular lovage soup, and enter a raffle to win prizes such as gift certificates for cooking herbs and spices. Oh, and by the way, admission is free.

John Jay Homestead Herb Fair, September 18, 11 am to 2 pm, free admission. John Jay Homestead State Historic Site, 400 Jay St/Rte 22, Katonah (914) 232-5651; johnjayhomestead.org
