For your next fried rice and dumpling fix try Chigo, an upmarket take on classic Chinese grub.
Right up there with pizza and burgers for American food traditions is Chinese food. The cuisine – in all its Americanized, salty, fatty, sweet-sauced glory – has become so ingrained in our food culture that some of our major holidays are the busiest for Chinese food including Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and the Super Bowl (yes, even non-football fans have to acknowledge the pigskin dénouement is an unofficial holiday).
And the preferred method of eating Chinese is takeout (it must be the nifty white boxes). In these pandemic times, the desire for takeout is heighted, which bodes well for Chigo, a takeout/delivery-only Chinese that debuted June 8 that also has the added appeal of using health-minded ingredients: organic, hormone-free chicken, pasture-raised pork, grass-fed beef, wild-caught fish, cage-free chicken eggs, Chinatown noodles, and organic vegetables.
Some of the best items on the menu I sampled were the crab Rangoon (who’d think cream cheese and seafood would make such a delicious pairing?), Berkshire pork dumplings, organic veggie fried rice, snappy Chinese green beans with just the right amount of ginger, and the wok-fried spicy prawns.
There are currently no plans for sit down dining, as cb5 Hospitality Consulting has done full-service Chinese previously (China White, WUJI, Lulu) and the central lesson Founder/CEO Jodi Pennette has learned is people want (COVID-19 concerns aside) their Chinese food experience to be takeout.
Whether you choose takeout or delivery (see below to where it’s available), know that this is upgraded Chinese from what most are used to so you’ll pay a bit more but the quality is no question present.
