The Halal Guys has an impressive origin story that spans three decades. The American food chain began as your average Manhattan hot dog cart in 1990, founded by three Egyptian immigrants: Abdelbaset Elsayed, Mohamed Abouelenein, and Ahmed Elsaka. Their clientele started off as primarily Muslim taxi drivers searching for authentic halal food but quickly expanded throughout the five boroughs to diners eager to enjoy the famous platters of chicken and gyro over rice, falafel sandwiches, and delectable sauces.
The street food picked up steam and began to grow in popularity in the Big Apple, with lines forming down the block of customers buying lunch and late-night meals alike. Today, the company’s vision is to be the leading and best American halal food restaurant in the world.
When does The Halal Guys in New Rochelle open?
With over 100 stores in over 10 states, The Halal Guys’ latest move is to expand closer to home via its newest location in New Rochelle. (Its other Westchester location is in Yonkers.) The storefront opens on October 25 and will be the company’s 103rd location.

The Halal Guys teamed up with a local artist to design a mural which shows the New York City skyline and its famous food carts, giving off the authentic experience of The Halal Guys. The New Rochelle location has a special design that tells the story of the brand and pulls from its history with visuals of taxi drivers, white and red sauces, subway tiles, and manhole covers to give customers the urban concrete jungle vibe.
What to expect
At this new location, customers can expect the signature menu stocked with authentic American halal dishes. Get ready to dine on the platters and sandwiches filled with your choice of falafel, chicken, or beef gyro. After your platter, try out one of the desserts including baklava, chocolate baklava, and baklava cheesecakes. This location will also serve chicken wings, a new menu item, tossed in barbecue sauce, with the choice of white or red sauce, blended herbal white sauce, smoky barbecue sauce, or hot chili barbecue sauce on the side.

Additionally, if you’re one of the first 100 guests in line at the stores opening on October 25, you will get a receive a free platter. Every guest after the first 100 will receive 25% off all orders for up to one week (offer not valid on family meals or catering). Also, during the opening day, customers can enter their names to win an array of prizes including a Sony Play Station 5 and a $100 The Halal Guys gift card.
