For those who don’t know, September is National Chicken Month. To celebrate the occasion, we pulled together a list of restaurants to grab golden, crispy fried chicken in the county.
Br’ers BBQ
52 Church St, Bedford Hills
If you’re in the mood for savory, crispy fried chicken, Br’ers BBQ has you covered. You can order three or six pieces of the fried chicken thighs, or the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, overstuffed with house-fried crispy chicken thighs piled high with pimento cheese and dill pickles. You can even add fried chicken as a protein to the cobb salad, made with romaine lettuce, tomato, hardboiled egg, and a sweet, tangy dressing. You’ll soon taste why Br’ers (short for “brothers”) won “best new barbecue restaurant” in our 2024 Best of Westchester contest.

Chicken Coop
80 US-6, Baldwin Pl; 914.274.8444
If you’re looking for an im-peck-able selection of chicken dishes — sandwiches, fries, wings — Chicken Coop is your new hideout. Try the Cluckin Fries for a Nashville hot chicken twist on cheese fries ( think pepperjack and cheddar, chopped-up Nashville hot chicken, curly fries, bacon bits and Comeback sauce), or the classic Nashville hot chicken sandwich (spicy buttermilk-fried chicken on a toasted brioche bun with coleslaw, pickle chips and Comeback sauce) that will make you salivate upon first sight. Order it in original flavor or extra spicy, if you’re like that.

Lilly’s
169 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.997.5600
Lilly’s ain’t wingin’ it when it comes to crispy chicken. Order the chicken and waffles for brunch and get a complimentary mimosa or bloody Mary. Or, for lunch, order the crispy fried chicken sandwich with pickles, cherry peppers, lettuce, white barbecue sauce, crispy fries, and a brioche bun. Or, order it traditionally as a small plate for dinner. (Pro tip: This sammie can also be made gluten-free.)

Rye Roadhouse
12 High St, Rye; 914.925.2668
Soaked in buttermilk and crisped to a golden brown, the chicken at Rye Roadhouse is a regular Best of Westchester winner, and you can expect a fried chicken special every Wednesday night. If your mouth is already watering, we’ll let you in on a little secret: The fried chicken po’ boy is available all day, every day, but isn’t on the menu. (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!)

The Shop Ardsley
711 Saw Mill River Rd, Ardsley; 914.591.4321
If you’re planning on heading over to The Shop in Ardsley, make sure to bring a group of poultry-loving friends (or a really big appetite). With a rotisserie and fried chicken section on the menu, this place takes chicken seriously. While single-portion dishes are offered, the crowning glory is a four-person fried chicken meal that consists of two birds and your choice of four sides.

Southern Table
39 Marble Ave, Pleasantville; 914.618.3355
When the #birdlife chooses you, head to Southern Table, which brings the heat with its rendition of the popular Nashville hot chicken. If you don’t like spicy, there are plenty of other drumsticks to go around, including buttermilk fried chicken and chicken and waffles for brunch and dinner, and an array of chicken sandwiches — crispy, hot, Southern — for lunch.
