Sweet!
The legendary Pie Lady of Nyack, who started selling pies from her back porch when her three kids were young, opened the Pie Lady & Son shop with her now-grown son a few years ago. If you can’t make it to Nyack, get their old-fashioned pies at the Rye and Larchmont farmers' markets. They’re made with unbleached flour, cane sugar, Cabot sweet butter (as the only shortening), a touch of salt, fresh fruit—and whatever bakers’ alchemy creates their ultimate flaky crust and understated sweetness. A dozen flavors in several sizes range from bumbleberry (blueberry/raspberry/apple/rhubarb) to coconut custard, and they sell cookies, tarts, and brownies as well. They go fast! Their “official” word is to refrigerate the pie by the end of day two, but, per their website, "Pies have traditionally been kept out and consumed at leisure over several days, and we like to eat our pies that way at home.”
