Tired of the same old, same old lunch choices? At The Bayou in the Fleetwood neighborhood of Mount Vernon, insiders know they’ll find an $8.99 lunch menu that isn’t on the website. Choose from 10 dishes such as crawfish étouffée, Bourbon Street barbecue ribs, Southern fried kickin’ chicken, or the daily omelet, wrap, or half po’ boy. Along with that, you’ll get either a cup of soup or house salad, one of six sides (such as collard greens, sweet potato chips, and smashed potatoes), and coffee, soda, a short beer, or a glass of wine! That’s $8.99, folks. Dine in only.

You can almost forget you’re there mainly for the crazy-cool atmosphere—bottles of hot sauce as far as the eye can see (the hot sauce list is 100 deep), bras hanging over the bar, strings of lights, hot-sauce-themed tabletops—even McIlhenny Tabasco Sauce tiles in the bathroom (where there is also a big red drum). Going at night, when it really comes alive? Check out the awesome blues and zydeco lineup, and have a Hurricane or Blue Bayou.
